Karen Shinn and Gail Shields first talked about how they could work together at a conference for Professional Organizers in Canada (what a surprise!).
Karen was the owner of SmartMove, which changed its name to The Downsizing Diva in 2005, and Gail was the founder of All The Right Moves. Both companies helped seniors deal with the challenges of downsizing, organizing, transitioning and moving.
Over coffee and a stack of pancakes, Karen and Gail decided to support each other as friendly competitors. Over the next six years, they operated separate downsizing businesses but kept in touch, sharing ideas, best practices and contacts for senior care transition services. After a number of discussions and collaborative efforts, it became obvious… they would make a fabulous team!
Both bring specific skills to the franchise. Gail, a former public school teacher (and “lifelong teacher”), enjoys teaching and collaborating with others. Karen, with a background in recreation and marketing, is a non-stop whirlwind of ideas and inspiration.
With a flare for lightening the load and putting a smile on the faces of clients, Karen, Gail and their team of Diva franchisees continue to build the company’s reputation as the “ladies with the purple feather boas” as they focused on helping their clients move as easily and stress-free as possible.
